Mad for Madison’s Farmer’s Market

Designer, Researcher — Academic Project, Fall 2025

Worked on a multi disciplinary team of graphic designers, software developers and UX designers to create a mobile app for the Madison Farmers Market. We acknowledged the lack of structure that the Madison Farmers Market website has, especially when it comes to content & programming, so we devised a solution to create a welcoming, informational environment for Farmers Market enthusiasts to enjoy during their visits to the markets in the Madison Area.

Picking the Right Apples

Starting out the ideation phase, we focused on fast paced ideation and getting results on the page, beginning with the Crazy 8’s exercise. During this activity, our group discovered many different things that we could try to incorporate when wireframing, and many options available from the solutions we generated during the journey mapping phase. We took these solutions, and created Solution Sketches from the various different problems we encountered when walking through the User Journey.

The last step in our wireframing process was to design for habits. A big part of mobile apps isn’t getting a user to download an app, it’s retaining that user and having them come back. Mobile apps are designed to be used for multiple different occasions, so manipulating habits is a great way to ergonomically get users to come back. We implemented a rewards system, which helps users come back due to positive reinforcement. We also implemented variable reward in the home feed, investment by creating user lists, and personalization by implementing preferences of the users.

Once our pen touched the Figma canvas, we had a broad range of ideas as to how to incorporate these solutions into our ideas, and how to create applications with pre-existing mental models to have users effortlessly use our applications. Once these wireframes were in Figma, we tweaked and touched up our designs, until we got to a place where we thought the application was user centric, and functionality focused. I created some UI presets for the team to use, and helped the team members who were new to Figma navigate the interface, and learn how to use it!
